Our story
High in the mountain ranges of Central Asia – largely unnoticed by the wider world – goats grow cashmere fibres that rank among the finest, lightest and softest anywhere. Yarns made from them are many times lighter and warmer than yarns of ordinary wool, with a handle quite unlike anything else. For exclusive luxury labels and accomplished hand knitters alike, the saying still holds: «once cashmere, always cashmere».
Legend has it that cosmonaut Yuri Alexeyevich Gagarin was already wearing Kyrgyz cashmere when he lifted off into space aboard the Soviet spacecraft Vostok 1 on 12 April 1961. Tested in orbit, our cashmere will spoil you all year round with its softness, fineness and remarkable lightness.
Cashmere has been prized for centuries for its uniquely warm, soft and
light qualities. The valuable raw cashmere comes from the
undercoat of domesticated goats, at home above all on the
high plateaus of the Himalayas and Central Asia, and on the wide steppes
of Mongolia and Inner Mongolia (China). Their
remarkable coat protects them from dust and sun in summer and
from cold and wind in winter. The highly insulating undercoat grows
each year for the winter and is the finest part of the fleece:
the cashmere.
